Music to motivate learning

We tend to pipe in music into our lives on a steady basis. To kick-start our learning neurons, we flow between Mozart, Bach, Beatles, and Bluegrass. Lately, there's been a lot of bluegrass. I am curious as to what everyone else listens to. Anything interesting, cool, new, or weird?

Alexander responds well to John Mellencamp and southern rock in general--including some country and bluegrass.

We've been listening to a lot of bluegrass too since watching "O Brother Where Art Thou" on Christmas Day. Also a lot of old cowboy music (Tex Ritter), banjo music (the youngest wants to learn to play), and since we are where we are now, Caribbean soca.

Oh, and since I don't like "traditional" classical music (puts me to sleep every time), we've been doing Cubapercussion & Klazzbrothers. Also: Fats Domino, Aaron Copeland, Glenn Miller, Ira Gershwin, Scott Joplin, and things of that ilk.

However, to get Alexander to sleep we have to do the soft stuff: Carpenters, Air Supply, etc.

Not new, but fun: anything by the Klezmatics, and any volume of Alligator Stomp (a collection of various Cajun/Zydeco artists.)

Hmm. I think once upon a time Nickel Creek was considered bluegrass. The new album is more alternative than anything, but I love it anyway. Rufus Wainwright relaxes me. The Beatles, Green Day, The Killers, and Franz Ferdinand for the car. Barber's Adagio for Strings and Amelie's theme for when I clean house. DD loves Bond and Vivaldi for school.
