You, Me and Dubai.

So a colleague at work e-mailed me a link to a career site. "They need people with American media experience." Oh yeah? I said. "Yes. And my friend just got hired and is paid $300,000 annually. She also gets an apartment and a maid."

I BEG YOUR PARDON?

"And it's like Las Vegas. Not Saudi Arabia. People are pretty free in Dubai."

Sure, except for the lack of porn and alcohol -- right? But I did have that friend in boarding school who was pretty wild. She lived in Dubai.

"Well, just think about it."

Thinking.

Isn't today (Wednesday) when you're supposed to call Bucolic to discuss the decision making of their admissions committee?

Thought it out already...

If anyone can do it, it seems you might find a creative way to see a move come to fruition. Keep the dream alive!

The best way to approach such a move, is to find a "sponsor". The sponsor (an Arab buisness owner or venture capitalist) will help you get set up with viable work; that is, work that you can actually make a little money at, rather than live out your days as a "day-labor".

The "sponsor" can apply with/for you live within areas of the city rather than the designated ex-pat neighborhoods usually outside city limits. Most likely, your business space and housing will be Arab owned, ex-pat rented. Some ex-pats are able to gain limited storefront and housing ownership if they partner up with an Arab (who usually owns 51% or more of the property).

There is much ado about being Jewish or especially, being a Jewish Israeli. Some can get in but the general rule is that they are not allowed.

Sitting here pondering which is more nauseating, Las Vegas or Dubai.

Stumped.

And oh yeah, U.S. Passports do not show what religion you are.

Oddly, Israeli Arabs are not allowed into Dubai, either.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I was like, "Er. . . How will they know I'm Jewish if I don't tell anybody?"

From what I am gathering, people tend to opt for the four-year work contract (max?) in Dubai, live on very little while there, suck up the good life, then return home to the West with a nice stash of cash.

I would not mind keeping my religion a non-issue for four years if I were to land a cushy contract in Dubai. Yes, it's discrimination, but I have a kid to raise.
